Finding patches of green in the "concrete jungle" and getting the kids out of the house each day has been a necessity for my sanity on our trips down to SoCal. We spent a morning at the El Dorado Nature Preserve in Long Beach, where we walked the one- and two-mile trails surrounding a few scenic lakes and woods.
We found some mallards "doing headstands!"
There were also quite a lot of fox squirrels scampering around the forest.
Niall, who traditionally likes being carried on hikes, actually walked almost the whole way on his own, which was good because we didn't pack a carrier on this trip!

I love enjoying the great outdoors with my family, and hope these little ones grow up to appreciate hikes and nature as much as we adults do!
