I will always be a band nerd at heart. Yes, I was in marching band in high school. Yes, I did go to band camp. And yes, I play(ed) the flute. I loved being involved in the music department at Richmond and got to meet so many neat people. I really do miss performing, although I was able to do some singing and flute-playing through Zumbro Lutheran Church here in Rochester my first couple of years here. I've taken quite a lot of time off at this point, but I've been organizing this med student/grad student/fellow/etc. music recital for next Friday and thus have had the excuse to pick up my flute again! On Sunday, I got together with Kristi, a graduate student I met through a flute ensemble, to run through some duets to choose for the recital. It was great to play again. I really think it has been over 6 months since I touched my flute (cringe). I'm glad she was in town this year because I have someone to play with-- I'm not a huge fan of playing unaccompanied flute solos, it would take too long to work something up with an accompanist, and I am not really that comfortable performing on the piano, the alternative which I'd chosen the past 2 years. It's kind of sad, because I really think that the start of residency might be the end of my playing altogether, so it's good I'm getting some (perhaps my last) opportunity now. If you're here, I'd love it if you were able to come to the performance (7:30 p.m. in Gonda on the Friday the 16th--bring anyone). This has always been a free event, but on a suggestion from Barbara, a peds resident here, I think we're going to collect donations for the Ronald McDonald House and have it be a benefit.
Here are some nerdy music jokes that might get some laughs. I came across them on a sheet I must have saved since HS while going through old books and papers!!!!

I have to say that those are quite possibly the most nerdiest jokes I have ever heard.
Hans-
I would have to say that I am possibly one of the most nerdiest people you have met/ will ever meet, so I suppose they are appropriate, are they not?
