Double Digits!

 

Iver is now TEN years old!! (We honestly feel too young to have a ten-year-old!).

He weighs about 67 lbs and is approx 4 ft 5 inches. He wears ~size 5 shoes, and is partial to shorts, soccer jerseys and outfits (including his favorite and special pink Messi jersey that was a gift from Katherine last year, and into which he still fits!), and different specialty athletic shoes.

He's a pretty good sleeper these days, rarely waking up at night and occasionally sleeping in past 6 a.m., although he's always been our early riser. He's a good eater of pasta, burgers, spicy things, yogurt, granola, fruit, most veggies, and is competent in the kitchen (he was in charge of Thanksgiving pie this year and will happily make his own panini if he doesn't like what I've prepared for dinner).

He's doing well in math and language (both Spanish and English) in fourth grade and has just started (this year) reading independently "for fun," blazing through the Katherine Applegate books and several from Judy Blume.  He also likes to write his own short stories (mostly on google docs).  He's gotten pretty good at the piano, despite having been taught only by me or by a new app my parents gifted him, Simply Piano.  He has wonderful handwriting and is good at art projects/drawing/coloring even thought it's not his passion at the moment.

He's become quite the athlete, excelling in soccer, sprint track, cross country, and pickleball. He has started to be really interested in watching professional football and knowing all of the stats.  He's still highly competitive!

He loves to be around people, talking or playing. He's still pretty sensitive, strong-willed and opinionated, but he's definitely more flexible and accommodating with fewer battles than years past.  He's extremely justice-oriented, and has grown into a very focused, self-motivated, and responsible kid whom we love!

We celebrated with solstice morning gift-opening (thanks to family for so many sporty gifts!!) and a futsal party, at which he and his buddies had a blast!

This is the one day a year I try to be a "crafty" mom (these are rice balls with pentagonal-cut nori!).
