Memphis!

Right after my breech conference, Kelvin left town to go to a community health center conference in Memphis.  He had a couple of travel snafus as well, with fog-related flight cancellations out of Arcata, but he also enjoyed a few kid-free days with some sightseeing in Memphis, a city to which neither of us has been (Kelvin also did quick trips across the state borders to visit Arkansas and Mississippi, states that neither of us has set foot in).

A highlight was the National Civil Rights Museum (I would have loved to visit this!), located just next to the (Lorraine) Motel when Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. (When Iver, who has an incredible memory, heard that Kelvin was going to Memphis he (having read some MLK books last January) asked, "You mean, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot at age 39?"!)

He was shot on the balcony outside his room (306).

 Foreshadowing

What a terrible history the deep south has (with so many injustices enduring still).

Kelvin also went to Graceland, Elvis' estate.

We're happy to have "papa" back in town! He had to rent a car to get to/from San Francisco due to flight cancellations, but the kids' behavior is way better now that we're back to our normal routine.
