I was on call for Labor Day Weekend and had a LOT of labors (I attended one scheduled cesarean and six other vaginal births!). When I'm on call, Kelvin likes to "do his own thing" with the kids, which usually means they're out and about a lot. I did have some time in between the births at home to hang out with kids and K but was back and forth (and rounding) a lot (and needed some naps).

On Sunday, K and the Spellmeyers went back to Redding for a last hurrah at the water park on the last open weekend of the season. The weather was only in the 80s (which probably would have felt too cold for me to be in the water anyway), but they had a good time!

Hudson was over for a few hours on Monday and Niall dressed up in a crazy outfit, with a wetsuit as the "base layer."

Then, this week, Kelvin left on Wednesday to go to a Silent Retreat outside of Grass Valley (more on this later-- I hope he can write a guest blog for me on his experience!). Soon after his departure, our fire alarms started chirping. Despite battery changes, resetting and then unplugging the things, I still have beeping from at least one. I've been managing not to go insane and can drown it out with white noise.
My kind of solo parenting involves a lot of time puttering and chilling at home-- reading and snuggling. The kids like having "sleepovers" in our king bed!
I am also much less particular (than Kelvin) about kids doing messy art projects or experiments or doing various things with glitter and paint...

Iver wanted some green (temporary) hair color for Halloween and I found some on sale! They both wanted to go to school on Friday sporting some green, which was fine by me! Many of the kids in their school have brightly colored hair, as it turns out (as I saw at regular drop-off time).

Kelvin is back on Sunday and, while I may not be ever able to figure out the smoke alarms, the solo parenting is going quite fine this time around (as opposed to my traumatic time in March)!
