Mother's Day Weekend 2017

If only this could be gifted.  Sigh.

Here is a recent good article from the NY Times on the reality (ambivalence, guilt, frustration) that is real motherhood and which echoes many of my own feelings.

In reality, this (non-call) weekend was pretty ordinary--low key and fairly relaxing, with not quite enough "introversion" time, but mostly tantrum-free family time.

Iver had fun finger-painting at the Discovery Museum on Saturday.

Saturday afternoon, we watched Lincoln for a bit so Kellie and Mark could have some much-deserved date time!   The boys did puzzles, played with water and bubbles, and then took a long walk around the neighborhood on the bikes.

Today, we enjoyed a toddler-free New Heart service (Iver enjoyed "church school!") and then I enjoyed watching the Golden State Warriors come back from a 25-point deficit to win a nail-biting Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals.

After nap, we went to Arcata's Cafe Mokka Finnish country hot tubs and saunas.  Kelvin and I had last (and only once) been there in 2013, but this was Iver's first time (and kids under six enter free!). He being a fan of "hot pools," it was a hit!  We first spent 30 minutes in the private open-air wood hot tub, and then transitioned to the private sauna (where we lasted about 20 minutes). Iver loved running naked in the steamy sauna, as well as greeting the coffee shop cat.

(steamy sauna pic)!

We left with our bodies and souls warmed (albeit with 45 still in office)!

Happy Mother's Day to all biological, foster, and adoptive mothers, grandmothers, godmothers,  those mothers grieving loss or separation from their kids or parents themselves, those who yearn to be mothers someday, and those who are childless by choice but who fight for women every day, and who are the mothers of humanity.
