Kelvin and my two-year anniversary was on July 2nd. "What did you do?" many have asked me. Well.... let it be known that I spent it recovering from a very busy call weekend (it was nice to spend one night at home with the hubby after three in a row at the birth center!). We aren't into flowers/gifts/etc. We are using the anniversary as an excuse to take a mini-vacation over this Fourth weekend... to Canada and back!
Our first stop was Seattle. After work on Wednesday, we drove the 5 hours up to Eugene, OR and then, today, went the additional 4.5 hours up to Seattle to stay with Apurva. Kat, my awesome sister in law, and her boyfriend Eddie also flew up from Orange County to spend the weekend with us.
Apurva lives in downtown Seattle, and showed us around on this lovely afternoon. I recall that the last time I spent time in downtown Seattle was in early 2007, while interviewing for residencies (although we were briefly in Washington in 2011 for Joe/Brittinee's wedding a week after ours)! It was fun reminiscing on that time by re-reading my blog posts here and here.
We started exploring at Pike's Place Market, which is walking distance from Apurva's.
We, of course, had to snap shots of the "Original" Starbucks (although the line was too long to go in!).
We checked out a few more downtown eateries and shops, including this Chocolatier and the neighboring cupcake shop (Cupcake Royale). Seattle is very pet-friendly.
The weather was glorious for us (about 70 and sunny!) but a bit hot for Pep. Here she cools off in the shade. She was a trooper, walking everywhere with us!
We ended the afternoon at the seaside Olympic Sculpture Park, which neighbors a lovely bike/walking trail along the water.
