The day after we returned home from SoCal, my parents, who had been attending a Fisher (MN) high school reunion of sorts in the Sacramento area (our old stomping ground!) and who try to visit us about once per year around March, drove up to NorCal to stay with us for eight days.
We had spent some good quality time with them over the Christmas break, and the boys really looked forward to playing and reading with Grandma and Grandpa. I hope that their time here wasn't too boring-- we did have nice weather and got out to a nice birthday dinner for my Dad (sans kids) at Larrupin Café, a wonderful restaurant in Trinidad, thanks to babysitting by one of the kids' teachers; however, most of the time during their visit, K and I were working (and I was on call for a whole 96-hour weekend, pulling one, ~24-hour continuous stay at the birth center). My parents helped quite a bit with cooking and dog-walking during our busy workdays which allowed us a bit of flexibility and time to catch up on tasks in our first week back from being out of town for the prior two weeks. They are also very much into board game-playing and reading with the kids, which is a nice complement to the activities that the munchkins partook in with K's parents on their OC vacation.
My Dad had taught Iver to play chess over Christmas and they played several games on this visit.
Niall showed Grandpa his sushi set
There was lots of quality reading time
I didn't take too many pictures during their stay, but my parents sure were enmeshed in and got a good taste of our home life routine, which entails its fair share of drama and spiritedness from our oldest, goofy antics from our youngest, and dinner chaos all around. They wonder what our kids will be doing and how much they will have grown the next time we're all together!
