We have started a bit of a tradition in this house during spring time in getting insect kits from Insect Lore. The kids have really enjoyed learning about the life cycles of insects and releasing them to the wild. The kits also come with observation journals. We have done caterpillars--> butterflies and praying mantises in the past years. This years it was Ladybugs.
We got two tubes of ladybug larvae that had to be placed into the ladybug habitat with food, and a few drops of water every few days onto the blue sponge (Niall did a great job with this task!).
Then there was the pupa stage when they were to be left undisturbed.
They hatched and were to be fed rehydrated raisin halves ("Isn't that just a grape?" Iver asked.)
