A global pandemic.
The possibility of some truly terrible election results (or a former president on a raging warpath if he loses or refuses to concede, and resulting violence from his supporters).
Does Halloween or its aftermath need to be any scarier this year? But, really, do we even need this day in "normal" years?!
A lover of fall but pretty much a hater of all things Halloween, I was secretly excited to hear that traditional Halloween (or at least trick-or-treating and the pressure of costumes and parties) was probably going to be cancelled this year (and which was confirmed by the CA department of public health). We did put up a few front yard decorations, and the kids had a party at daycare on Friday for which they were excited to dress up and get treats (there was even a Zoom parade we could tune into from work). Iver has actually been reading some electronic books through school and learning about Día de los Muertos, which has been neat. But that was about it for us this year, and it was perfect.
Iver wanted to be his favorite animal, a unicorn. He wanted his little brother to be a rainbow (which is, apparently, well known to be a "unicorn fart" [which was news to me]), but Niall also wanted some unicorn gear instead of "just" being the fart.
