On Saturday, we made the short (anything less than five hours is short to us!) 1hr20 min drive to Austin, Texas' capital city northeast of San Antonio.
The Capitol and grounds were a picturesque place to amble around and for squirrel-watching.
There were definitely Confederate monuments, but at least there was an African American memorial as well.
We joined a Capitol tour for a bit and learned a bit about Texas' bicameral (part-time, every-other-year) legislature.

We stopped by Zilker park and Iver dipped into Barton Springs Pool, a natural springs pool which was a bit chilly, even on a hot day.
We had lunch at the home of Emily, an old friend from high school.
Iver and similarly spirited Sophie were fast friends!
