A lot to celebrate: half a decade and a home!

Exactly five years ago and just out of residency, Kelvin and I tied the knot outside of Sacramento (on a 105-degree day) with many of our dear family and friends.

Today, we celebrated our fifth anniversary...  by waking up in a NEW house with our baby at 5:30 a.m., unpacking boxes, and making a Costco/Target run and getting take-out (big whoop!! Kelvin's parents are with us right now and we celebrated his dad's birthday yesterday is similar non-impressive style).

After living in Humboldt County for just about five years, and having acquired a dog and a child, our former house wasn't working very well for us, and we decided to seek out an alternative. While we had sort of been "browsing" local real estate for a while, nothing had struck our fancy; however, around Mother's Day, we found a lovely home we adored in McKinleyville (just a few miles north of Arcata, and the location of my office), negotiated and within a week made the offer, and then held our breath and didn't say much, lest we "jinx" anything until escrow closed a couple of weeks ago (SO. MUCH.PAPERWORK. I had no idea.). We moved in on the first of July. 

The fairly new (six-year-old) house is a one-level (yay! no fighting our climber on the stairs), 4BR/2B single family home in a quiet neighborhood of McKinleyville.  It has a large open living room/kitchen area, and then the bedrooms are in a semi-circle around the perimeter. I think the layout is fantastic.  

We have a LOT of unpacking to do, so pardon the disarray, but a few of you have been asking for photos.

The "Office" will hold our elliptical, desk, and futon, so that Iver can have a bedroom which doesn't have the risk of falling bookshelves (in case of earthquakes)

The master bedroom has a walk-in closet, and the bathroom has double sinks (yes!).

There is a modest fenced yard with a back deck and a well-maintained garden.

We are definitely in the throes of unpacking, which is really challenging with an active toddler (we are soooo lucky my in-laws are here!). It's frustrating to not know where everything is, and we are holding of on some unloading and arranging until we get some furniture additions (unfortunately, only half of our bed frame arrived on Thursday), but we hope to have it visitor-ready soon.
