I was on call this past weekend and attended four births, but didn't get called in on Saturday, when we were lucky to attend the baby shower of Cila, a dear friend/teacher of both of our kids, and her partner, Shane.
Cila is in her late thirties and as maternal and loving a figure as one could be. She has wanted to be a parent forever, even considering fostering. She is now pregnant with her first, into her third trimester, is so excited to be about to be a parent to a baby boy. So many friends, former students, and parents, gathered at Jen and Miles' home in McKinleyville to shower her with love and gifts. The decor (by Christina, I think) was so impressive, and the food amazing.
It truly takes a village to raise a child (/children), and she has been a huge part of our support system locally. We can't wait for the big day and for her to embark on her own parenthood journey. (Niall is still puzzled because he thought the baby was going to be born at the “shower”!).
