Iver is one month shy of a year! He:
- probably weighs close to 18 lbs. At his second flu shot appointment around 10 months, he was 17#8 oz, and still holding at around the 9th percentile.
- is still exclusively on breastmilk as well as a variety of solids, although getting them in is challenging. He doesn't particularly like eating in his high chair, and it's often a fight to get more than a couple of bites in. He needs a lot of distraction. He prefers to feed himself. We try to give him milk in a cup during meals to boost his calories. His milk intake has gone down a bit during the day, leaving me with a bit of a freezer surplus (a good problem to have!). I'm still pumping but looking forward to backing down and eventually quitting (although it seems arbitrary to pick a "quit date" even though I know it's reasonable in the next few months. I'm not sure when he'll wean completely).
- now has six teeth -- 4 upper and two lower. He's chewed his crib rail pretty good, but hasn't been biting while nursing any more.
- poops pretty much every morning and pees regularly throughout the day on the baby potty over our toilet, although he's needing more distraction to stick with it; he's in mostly pocket cloth diapers during the day (changing him is a huge challenge!), and disposables (we love Pampers!) at night with one change.
- is a better sleeper. He goes to bed in his crib between 7:30 and 8 pm, and sometimes wakes around 12 or 1 a.m and fusses but we don't intervene. I only get up once to feed/change him around 1:30-2:30 a.m, and then he is waking around 5-5:30 a.m. (and can sometimes be coaxed back to sleep by Kelvin for another 30-45 min or so). He still naps twice a day for about an hour, but occasionally one nap will be as short as 30 min, and he is often a little bit impish in his crib.
- is still very adventurous. he has figured out how to lower himself down off the bed/couch rather than going head first. He can climb out of his living room gated "pen" by pulling himself up onto the sectional couch. He will walk up our stairs holding onto the railing, rather than crawling. He is freestanding, and taking a few steps at a time. I think he's close to walking. We have put up a baby gate at the bottom of our stairs, and put drawer locks in the living room, baby proofing a little at a time. He still loves to pull on electrical cords. He loves crawling under chairs or into closets and hiding.

- mimics our gestures and seems to understand some commands in both Vietnamese and English.
- makes a lot of noises including consonants and squeals, but I'm not sure they're purposeful or specific.
- loves other babies and children, and I think he'll do great at daycare in January.
- is incredibly smiley and laughs frequently, when bounced, or when chased up the stairs
- currently has his second cold of his first year, with copious clear snot (and bubbles that he pops), fever, and some vomiting. He hates having his nose wiped or sucked out with the Nose Frida.
- has one international (Ecuador) stamp in his passport and will be coming with us to Panama in the spring!
- loves to be outside, walking in the stroller/BOB or being carried forward-facing in the Lillebaby carrier, or swinging or going down slides at the neighborhood park. He likes dancing and playing with Pepper.
